C12 MNA is a classic aldehyde that has been used in perfumery for decades. Its
scent is penetrating and somewhat abstract. The variety of nuances, however,
makes it very versatile. Often described as a secret ingredient, it has the
ability to "lift" a composition.

scent is penetrating and somewhat abstract. The variety of nuances, however,
makes it very versatile. Often described as a secret ingredient, it has the
ability to "lift" a composition.

Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Aldehyde C12 MNA has a typical aldehyde smell: greasy, waxy, but also citrus.
The smell is strong and can be overpowering. Making a dilution of, for example,
10% can therefore be useful. Typical use is in aldehydic fragrances and for
enhancing citrus. You usually use a trace of up to 1% of this substance in the
fragrance composition, sometimes a little more. In aldehydic fragrances you use
this for the special effect that Chanel No 5 has become famous for. In citrus
scents, it returns the natural freshness that the essential oil no longer has.
In perfumes it is mainly a top note if you look at the effect, but a base note
if you look at the evaporation. It is stable in a surprising number of products,
including soap and deodorant.
A 10% solution can be made with all common solvents. 96% alcohol is preferred as
this promotes the stability of the aldehyde.
Physical properties

Aldehyde C12 MNA is a colorless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The
purity is at least 97% when we receive it. The substance is sensitive to oxygen
from the air and also spontaneously changes into other substances (trimers). The
97% is therefore quickly less. That does not always matter in this case: the
smell becomes less strong, but the other products to be expected are not more
allergenic, more irritating or in any other way more dangerous. Also, no
disturbing odors or solids are formed. We also recommend stockpiling for no more
than 6-12 months and sticking to the expiration date as much as possible.
