Use (Hekserij)

Citral has a distinctive warm citrus scent. The scent seems medium strong, but lends itself very well to low doses. Making a dilution of, for example, 10% can therefore be useful. Typical use is in citrus accords. You usually use between 0.2% and 5% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It is a very widely used substance, often in low doses. It adds a touch of natural citrus freshness, whether or not in combination with the linear aldehydes (C9, C10, C12 Lauryl etc.). It also ensures that products with a lot of citrus oil continue to smell better and longer. It is primarily a top note in perfumes and is stable in neutral and acidic products. Opinions about the usefulness in soap vary widely, but compared to most citrus oils, it is a better choice there.

Physical properties

Citral, also called citral, is a colorless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The purity is at least 96%. The substance has a fairly long shelf life. The substance occurs in nature, especially in lemongrass oil (up to 90%) and litsea cubeba oil (up to 75%). As a rule, we supply the synthetic material, but occasionally it is an isolate from essential oil.
