Isobutyl Quinoline is earthy, rooty, green, vetiver, mossy, animalic, damp noteused in amber, leather, oriental, chypre and especially masculine fragrances.(Note: IBQ tends to develop strongly during maturation so use sparingly eg. inrange 0.10-1.00%).

Isobutyl Quinoline is a classic ingredient used to create leather, tobacco, chypre, and fougere accords. Due to its tremendous potency, it should be well diluted (e.g., to 1%) to manage its intensity while effectively incorporating its distinct, robust character into the fragrance composition.

Isobutyl Quinoline (Pyralone) is the classic leather chemical. Its discovery led the great De Laire company to invent the famed Mousse de Saxe [https://fraterworks.com/products/saxon-moss] base (our Saxon Moss) as it was considered too difficult to use alone. In the early years of the golden age of perfumery, this material was considered mossy, but nowadays it is more often seen as leathery. This illustrates how our perceptions of scent have changed over the decades. Traces to 0.5% were key to many of the great 1970s – 1990s masterpiece gentlemen's perfumes and even today a textured and long lasting dry down is often created with small amounts of this marvelous material.  Isobutyl Quinoline is extremely strong and seldom needed above 0.5% in a fragrance. It is also pricey so we offer it at 10% in Dipropylene Glycol. For those who have speciality needs for the material, we also offer it pure. NOTE: This product should not be confused with Secondary Isoutyl Quinoline (2-Isobutyl Quinoline CAS 93-19-6) which we also sell [https://fraterworks.com/products/2-isobutyl-quinoline]. That product is much softer and far less frequently used.
