BASF, founded in 1865 as a dye maker, has come to produce some of the best aroma chemicals. Boasting high purities and a quality much appreciated by perfumers, they are the top of the class in many instances. Citronellol, a key component of rose and geranium, is often viewed as a fairly uninteresting and standard material which seldom receives the scrutiny it should when selecting raw materials. That shouldn't be the case so we did the comparative testing so you don't have to. Amongst the numerous qualities of Citronellol we evaluated, BASF's Citronellol 98 came out on top, a clear winner. Citronellol is rich and rose-like, deeper than Geraniol (which it complements greatly) and waxy. It has more of a rose's leafy character than the other rose alcohols.
