Rosy-floral facets emerge alongside subtle milky-lactonic undertones, creating complexity that rivals natural East Indian sandalwood. The clean, powdery character feels refined rather than heavy, while the radiant projection seems almost impossible given its base note weight. This Givaudan molecule represents the pinnacle of sandalwood chemistry. Discovered in 1996, Javanol achieves what many consider the closest synthetic approximation to natural beta-santalol—the principal odour-active component in precious East Indian sandalwood oil. The 400-hour substantivity on blotter translates to extraordinary real-world performance, and its odour threshold makes it approximately 400 times more potent than comparable sandalwood synthetics.
