Payan Bertrand is the master of Birch Tar and so we stock their wonderful rectified product [https://fraterworks.com/products/birch-tar-extra-oil-rectified] — IFRA safe and not fishy. But we are now offering another of their marvels: Birch Tar Clear. While rectified Birch is the scent of camp fires and outdoor winterly adventures, Birch Tar Clear is the scent of pipe ash, cigars and warm hearths — and it's IFRA compliant too! This clear oil is also about 50% lighter in colour than standard rectified oil. Clear Birch has a more refined and complete scent and has hints of boozy liquor and vanilla. This oil also has less top note impact making it more useful when a smoky dry down is wanted without the dirty top notes that can sometimes be apparent in other birch oils. Because of the strength and cost of this clear birch tar we also offer it at 10% dilution in natural triethyl citrate which means it is still compatible with natural perfumery. Even at 10% dilution this oil is still very strong, so we suggest diluting further to 1% where its effect is still noticeable (as evidenced in our Aventus demonstration formula below).
