While Safranal is the closest material to Saffron in terms of odour, it is highly restricted and so we rely on the very elegant and luxurious Safraleine from Givaudan which has no limits at all. Safraleine is usually used in small doses (below 0.5%) as it is very potent, but in some contexts it can work in overdose. Safraleine smells of saffron, herbs and leather with phenolic nuances and hints of tobacco and wood. It is a hugely versatile material that works wonders in leather bases or can simply provide a necessary saffron note much loved in Middle Eastern perfumery.
