Petitgrain Bigarade is the extraction of the foliage from bitter orange trees (the fruit of which is used for classic Seville orange marmalade). Of all the petitgrain oils, this is probably the most widely used for fine fragrance. This oil is extracted exclusively from the bitter orange tree making it the finest type, different from the lower quality so-called “Bigarade (Paraguay)” variants that flood the market. Petitgrain Paraguay is extracted from hybrid trees which cross the bitter orange with sweet (or other) varieties. Pure Petitgrain Bigarade is much more rare and considerably more beautiful.
