Phenoxanol stands in for rose absolute when rose absolute is too costly to use
in large doses. It is a rich and long lasting heart note with similarities to
Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol.
Cécile Zarokian uses it in a megadose in her Rose Aqor (2021) attar for Amouage
(formula below) to contribute the main rose note in addition to a selection of
high powered synthetics and it is also a key rose note in Gris by Dior.
Phenoxanol has a strong yet refined character which allows for the creation of
fragrances with remarkable radiance and persistence. It is one of those
chemicals that contributes a highly appealing quality to perfumes and certainly
should be exploited far more often because of it.
