Despite appearing in, arguably, the most famous perfume in the world (Chanel No
5 [https://fraterworks.com/products/compound-no-5]), Terpeneless Bergamot is
virtually unknown today. It has the characteristic delicate Earl Grey tea
quality that we all love in a quality Bergamot oil, but in a concentrated form,
without the sharp fresh notes.
When would you consider using terpeneless bergamot over regular? When you have a
perfume that needs an elegant and refined bergamot note more for its scent than
its top note lightness. Fragrances designed for very high parfum or extrait
concentrations (such as No 5's original 38% strength) tend to have a different
ratio of notes, with top notes being reduced in favour of heart and base. That
is where bergamot terpeneless shines and it is the logic behind Ernest Beaux's
decision to use it.
This Bergamot oil is free of furocoumarins, making it safe for use in large
quantities.
