Petitgrain Paraguay opens with a powerful bitter-green burst that's sharp and intensely fresh, evolving into a delicate sweet woody-floral heart with subtle citrus undertones reminiscent of crushed orange leaves and twigs.

Petitgrain Paraguay is the most common and, in the words of Steffen Arctander, the "most important by far of all the petitgrain oils." It is distilled exclusively from the bitter-sour variety of the orange tree (Citrus Aurantium), while Petitgrain Bigarade is made from the true Bitter orange tree (Citus Aurantium, Amara). In terms of the difference in odour and use, Petitgrain Paraguay is more fleeting and fresh while Petitgrain Bigarade has a slightly waxier and more woody quality.
