Methyl Nicotinate is a curious herbal aroma chemical which can be used to add naturalising and complex nuances to blends. It works particularly well in jasmine, tobacco and herbal accords. This material is found naturally in champaca absolute and many fruits so there is potential value in its use in the recreation of those materials. While unrestricted by IFRA, it should be noted that Methyl Nicotinate is a rubefacient which means that in sufficiently high doses it can cause a reddening of the skin due to vasodilation and for that reason it is sometimes used in topical medicaments to soothe inflammation.
