Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Amyl cinnamal has a greasy, but also somewhat spicy smell. This fragrance is
reminiscent of flowers such as jasmine and gardenia. The fragrance is not very
strong, so it can be used undiluted. Typical use is in jasmine accords,
additionally in ambers. You usually use between 0,5% and 25% of this substance
in the fragrance composition. In smaller quantities, it fits in many perfumes,
for example in fruit and floral scents. In larger quantities, it is mainly used
in amber perfumes with a strong jasmine scent. It is primarily a base note in
perfumes (Poucher: 100) and is stable in many products, including soap.
Physical properties

Amyl cinnamal is a colourless to slightly yellow liquid at room temperature, the
purity is at least 96%. The substance is sensitive to oxygen from the air and
therefore does not have a very long shelf life. The manufacturer adds 0,2 % tert
butylhydroquinone to it as antioxidant, but nevertheless we recommend to replace
this material at least once a year. The substance occurs in nature, but the
synthetic version is used for use as a fragrance.
