Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Amyl salicylate has a scent reminiscent of flowers, with sweet, balsamic, spicy
and green aspects. It also has the characteristic sweet metallic odour of
salicylates. The scent is not particularly strong, undiluted use is common.
Typical use is in fougères and certain floral accords. For the latter, a
non-complete list is: clover, orchid, azalea, hyacinth, poppy, broom,
heliotrope, daffodil, wallflower and carnation. You usually use between 0,1% and
10% of this substance in the fragrance composition, but a little more is
possible without any problems. It combines well with fruit, citrus, herbs and
aldehydes. It adds warmth and sweetness to the scent. In perfumes it is mainly a
heart to base note, it is stable in most products, including soaps. It can be
used well in scented candles.

Amyl salicylate is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. It is
a mixture of mainly three isomers:
n-Pentyl salicylate 50-75%
2-Methylbutyl salicylate 25-50%
Isopentyl salicylate 5-8%
