Essential oil Vetiver Java has a strong spicy scent with aspects of wood, earth
and tar in addition to green elements. It is a strongly scented substance, which
often becomes stronger after maturing and can dominate the perfume. In addition,
it is a syrupy substance that can thicken over time. Making a dilution of 10%,
for example, can be useful, for example in TEC or DPG. It goes well with many
other scents, but especially with woody scents. The combination of vetiver and
rose scent (often also with cedar wood) is classic. You usually use between 0,1%
and 3% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It is mainly a base note
in perfumes and is stable in most products, including soap.

Vetiver Java essential oil is a yellow-brown to black, syrupy liquid at room
temperature. The substance has a very long shelf life: the expiration date is
more to indicate that the scent can change over time, as well as the colour and
syrupiness. However: the scent of old vetiver oil is generally rated higher, so
definitely do not throw this oil away if the expiration date has passed. The oil
is made by steam distillation from the roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.)
Roberty, although the old botanical name Vetiveria zizanioides is also used for
this tropical grass species.
