Ethyl safranate (Giv) has a difficult to describe scent. On the one hand, it is
a spicy scent that is reminiscent of spice like anise, with something of apple
and mint. On the other hand, it also has a clear fruity floral scent in the
direction of rose and red fruit, much like damascones. The scent is quite
strong, making a dilution of for example 10% can therefore be useful, this can
be done in for example TEC or DPG. You use the substance for spicy accents in
fresh fruit and floral scents, usually between 0,1% and 2% of this substance in
the fragrance composition. It combines well with many fruit and floral scents.
It adds warmth, depth and a spicy aspect to the scent. In addition, it increases
the diffusion of the fragrance product. In perfumes it is mainly a heart to base
note. It is stable in most products, also in soap, only in bleach it does not
work.

Ethyl safranate (Giv) is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature.
The purity is at least 94% and the substance has a fairly long shelf life. It is
almost non-existent in nature, for use as a fragrance the synthetic version is
used. The manufacturer is Givaudan (8802603 Ethyl Safranate).
