Usage

Ethylene brassylate has a rather animalistic, but also sweet and powdery musk
scent. The odor is not particularly strong, so thinning is generally not
necessary. Use ethylene brassylate alone or combined with other musky fragrances
such as Galaxolide in a musk accord. Such a combination can be helpful because
many people don't smell one or more musk fragrances well. By using several musk
fragrances you can get around that problem a bit. It makes no sense here to
indicate what it combines well with: a musk accord fits in very many fragrance
compositions. Because many musks are used in laundry detergents for technical
reasons (the fragrances often stick well to wet and dry laundry), many people in
Europe think that musk smells like clean laundry. Elsewhere in the world it is
often associated with the animalistic and it is a more erotic scent. Like other
musks it is a typical base note, it is also quite useful in soap.
Physical properties

At room temperature it is a liquid, clear, colorless to light yellow substance,
which has a long shelf life. A well-known trade name for Ethylene Brassylate is
Musk T, but we sell it as a generic product. One of the raw materials is
rapeseed oil, but it is otherwise a synthetic product that does not occur in
nature. Compared to other musk fragrances, ethylene brassylate is easily
biodegradable in the environment, and is still classified as environmentally
hazardous.
