Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Geranyl acetate has a herbal floral fragrance reminiscent of lemon geranium. The
fragrance is not pronounced strong, undiluted use is common. Typical use is in
floral accords tending towards the green - herbal. You usually use between 0,1%
and 10% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with
the scent of rose, lavender and geranium. It makes the smell of many floral
accords more natural and friendly. In perfumes, it is mainly a top to bottom
note and is used a lot to get a nice transition from top to heart. It is stable
in most products, including soap and many acidic products.
Physical properties

Geranyl acetate is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The
purity is at least 90%, it can contain up to 10% neryl acetate. The substance
has a relatively long shelf life and occurs in nature, but for use as a
fragrance ingredient the synthetic version is used. It occurs naturally in e.g.
carrot seed oil, cananga oil and clary sage oil.
