Guaiyl acetate has a sweet, spicy, and woody scent with a rosey note. The scent
is not particularly strong; undiluted use is common. Its typical use is in sweet
woody accords and rose fragrances. Typically, between 0,1% and 10% of this
substance is used in fragrance compositions. It blends well with other woody
scents, especially vetiver and sandalwood, but certainly also with ambers. It
adds a spicy warmth to the fragrance. In perfumes, it's primarily a base note;
it's relatively stable in many products.

Guaiyl acetate is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The
substance has a relatively long shelf life. It is made from guaiac wood oil and
acetic acid, much the same way vetiveryl acetate is made from vetiver oil. For
some reason, the oil itself is almost unavailable on the market, but the acetate
is. In the absence of the oil, the acetate is the best possible substitute.
