Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Helvetolide (Fir) has a soft musky scent, not very animalic, more reminiscent of
ambrettolide or orris. The scent is not particularly strong, undiluted use is
usual. Typical use is in musk accords, especially in combination with fruit and
floral scents. You usually use between 0,1% and 10% of this substance in the
fragrance composition. It is quite diffusive and transfers this property to the
entire fragrance composition. In perfumes it is mainly a base note, but with a
clear radiance to the heart and even to the top of the perfume. It is stable in
most products, including soaps and candles.

Helvetolide (Fir) is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature. The
purity is at least 90% (sum of four isomers) and the substance has a fairly long
shelf life. Anosmia, the inability to smell (certain) fragrances, is common with
musk fragrances: you may temporarily or permanently not smell this substance at
all, or barely or distorted. It does not occur in nature, but the synthetic
version is used for use as a fragrance. This is partly based on renewable raw
materials, partly on fossil fuels. The manufacturer is the Swiss company
Firmenich.
