Isoamyl isovalerate has a fruity scent that initially resembles ripe apple, but
later becomes more reminiscent of banana and other sweet, tropical fruits. The
scent is not particularly strong; undiluted use is common. It is typically used
in fruity accords, especially apple, pear, and tropical fruits. It can also be
used in the fragrance of brandy, cognac, and chocolate, or in sweet floral
scents with a green note, such as rose, gardenia, and violet. It is typically
used between 0,1% and 10% in fragrance compositions. In perfumes, it primarily
serves as a base note. It is a volatile ester, making it unsuitable for use in
soaps, candles, powders, and products with a high or low pH.
