Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Isobutavan (Giv) has a sweet, spicy scent reminiscent of chocolate and vanilla.
The scent is not particularly strong, undiluted use is common. Typical use is in
gourmand accords, especially of caramel and chocolate. You usually use between
0,1% and 5% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It is very
versatile, just like vanillin, it fits in amber, wood, fruit but also in various
floral scents such as honeysuckle. It adds a kind of creaminess to the scent. In
perfumes it is mainly a base note, it is stable in most products. In soap it
discolours less easily and quickly than for example vanillin and ethyl vanillin.

Isobutavan (Giv) is a colourless to light yellow liquid or solid at room
temperature. The purity is at least 98% and the substance has a fairly long
shelf life. It occurs in nature, but for use as a fragrance the synthetic
version is used. This is largely based on vegetable raw materials. The
manufacturer is the Swiss Givaudan.
