Usage

Isobutyl salicylate has a somewhat hay-like, light fresh floral scent that is
often imaginatively described as clover or orchid fragrance. The odour is not
very strong or overpowering, so undiluted use is common. It has the signature
somewhat metallic background smell that all salicylates share. Typical usage is
in fantasy accords with names like clover and orchid. In such accords you use,
for example, 30 to 50% of this substance or more in the fragrance composition.
It can serve well in accords for field flowers, lavender, hay, grass or
tuberose, as well as fougère types. The dose is often between 1 and 15%, very
low doses are unusual.
Physical properties

Isobutyl salicylate is a colourless to pale yellow liquid at room temperature.
The purity is at least 98%; it has a fairly long shelf life. It is rare in
nature, such an exception, for example, is the magnolia. For use as a fragrance,
the synthetic version is used, mainly based on petrochemicals.
