Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Methyl benzoate has a fresh green scent reminiscent of wintergreen, eucalyptus
and mint. The smell is strong and easily overpowers, making a dilution of, for
example, 10% in, for example, DPG can therefore be useful. Its typical use is in
certain floral accords, especially tuberose and ylang ylang, but it can prove
useful in several other floral scents. You usually use a trace of up to 2% of
this substance in the fragrance composition, more is not a problem, but there is
then a considerable risk of a predominant smell of methyl benzoate. It adds a
green freshness reminiscent of spices. It is mainly a top note in perfumes and
is quite stable in many products, it can also be used in soap.
Physical properties

Methyl benzoate is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that has a long shelf life
at room temperature. The substance occurs in nature, for example in ylang ylang,
jasmine and champaca. For use as a fragrance, the synthetic version is used.
