Usage
Use (Hekserij)
Undecavertol (Giv) has a green scent reminiscent of green flowers, violet, lily
of the valley and fruit aspects such as green fig, kiwi and lychee. The smell is
not very strong, but can dominate, making a dilution of, for example, 10% can
therefore be useful. Typical use is chords with floral and fruit aspects such as
violet or fig. You usually use between a trace and 2% of this substance in the
fragrance composition. It adds a touch of green freshness. It is primarily a top
to middle note in perfumes and is stable in most products, including soap. A
very high or low pH does not go with this substance and it is not stable in
bleach either. It is a useful substance in candles.
Physical properties
Properties (Hekserij)
Undecavertol (Giv), or 4-methyl-3-decen-4-ol, is a colorless to pale yellow
liquid at room temperature. The substance has a fairly long shelf life and does
not occur in nature. The manufacturer is the Swiss Givaudan.
