As with all salicylates Cis-3-Hexenyl Salicylate has a moderate, somewhat translucent fragrance. Its value becomes apparent only when combined with other ingredients. It can 'open up' and unify the composition in which it is used. An inconspicuous, yet very useful molecule in a perfumer's palette.

The essence of cistus is obtained through the distillation of leaves and buds, which significantly alters its scent compared to standard labdanum. Its fragrance is very lively and rich (especially at the opening). The ambery, dense accents typical of labdanum are replaced here by a drier note, reminiscent of old, noble wood.

Citric Acid

Citric Acid cyrystals are almost odourless with a sharp lemon-fruity-sour taste.Used as a chelating agent to remove Fe (iron) from oils and compounds. Fecontamination comes from storage in steel drums or during distillation causingsevere darkening of the oil. Oils commonly affected by Fe contaminationpatchouli clove cinnamon vetiver lemongrass litsea cubeba lemon orangegrapefruit. Add a pinch (or <1%) of citric acid to a material and wait 7-14 daysto see if it lightens. The crystals precipitate so just pour off (decant) theoil from the top or filter the crystals out through a course filter paper.
